Warriston Crematorium

Funeral Services offered at Warriston Crematorium

Chapels

There are two chapels at Warriston Crematorium: the Lorimer Chapel and the Cloister Chapel. The Lorimer Chapel seats approximately 230 people and the Cloister Chapel a maximum of 60 people. In both chapels, services can be relayed to the outside by loudspeaker; so that additional mourners who cannot be accommodated inside can hear the proceedings. The cost of a cremation service is £692 (including a £52 Environmental Surcharge).

Service Times

The chapels are open for services six days a week, Monday to Saturday. Services on Saturday afternoons are subject to restricted availability.

In the Lorimer Chapel, the services are at hourly intervals and start on the hour. The first service is at 9.00am and the last at 4.00pm. The service itself should finish at least 20 minutes prior to the following service, to allow sufficient time for mourners to leave the chapel and for the staff to prepare for the next funeral.

It is possible to book extra time in the Chapel. In the Cloister Chapel, services are at hourly intervals and start on the half hour. The first service is at 9.30am and the last service is at 4.30pm. The service itself should finish at least 20 minutes prior to the following service, to allow sufficient time for mourners to leave the chapel and for the staff to prepare for the next funeral.

Religious / Non-Religious Services

Our chapels are non-denominational. We aim for them to be used by people of all faiths and of none. Certain Christian symbols are present, but those that are removable will be removed on request. We also have symbols representing the Sikh, Hindu and Buddhist religions, which can be placed in the chapel on request. We would ask for 24 hours' notice of any such request.

It is not necessary for a minister or other religious official to officiate at the service. It is entirely in order for a member of the family or a friend of the family to take on this role. We would also encourage family and friends to become actively involved in the arranging of the service, if they so wish.

Music

Our computer-based system contains the most common pieces of music played at funerals, including popular, classical and religious. We are able to source any additional music, providing it is currently commercially available, although we will need at least two working days notice.

Each chapel has an organ, and an organist is provided for each service.

Recording

We have the facility to offer a web cast service where the funeral may be viewed live (and also for 28 days afterwards) over the internet, but only by those authorised by the person arranging the funeral. We charge £30 for this service. We are also able to provide a DVD recording using the web cast camera. The charge for a DVD is also £30.
